Music Monday

It’s Monday, the start of another working week and to distract us from the humdrum of work I’m bringing you another song I love. This was started by the Drew over at The Tattooed Book Geek make sure you check him out.

This is one of my favourite opening scenes in a movie. Baby Groot is a mood.

WWW Wednesday

Today I have a super simple post to let the world know what I’m reading. Hosted by Taking on a World of Words, you answer 3 questions and hey presto, you are all done.

What are you currently reading?

What did you recently finish reading?

What do you think you’ll read next?

I have strayed from the fantasy path. I was doing so well at sticking to it, but I got all excited about my plans for next month on the blog and had to smash out a couple of quick romances. There wasn’t a vampire in sight. Because we are still in the midst of Wyrd and Wonder, I’m going to focus on the last fantasy books I have read. Continue reading “WWW Wednesday”

Rare Vigilance by M.A. Grant

Rare Vigilance is book 1 in the Whitethorn Agency, a fast paced, m/m romance with vampires.

Rare Vigilance by MA GrantSynopsis – Former marine Atlas Kinkaid knows not to ask questions about the clients he protects at the behest of the elite Whitethorn security agency. Just like he doesn’t like anyone asking about his scars—scars left by a mysterious attack that haunts his every waking moment.
Consumed by the need to find out what happened to him, Atlas takes a job providing security to Cristian Slava, the indolent—and gorgeous—son of a notorious businessman. Cristian seems to be just another entitled client, but when nights at the club turn into secret meetings and people start going missing, Atlas realizes there’s more to Cristian—and to protecting him—than meets the eye. I’m still doing my very best to stick to fantasy books this month. I’m actually surprised by how well I’m doing. Yay for Wyrd and Wonder and it’s ability to help me focus. Continue reading “WWW Wednesday”

Black Sun by Rebecca Roanhorse

I enjoyed Trail of lightning and when I saw all the hype around Black Sun I purposely stayed away from reviews to avoid spoiling it for myself. I went in blind so to speak.

BEST DESCISION EVER

What an absolute delight. Reading Black Sun is an absolute experience. It has popped straight to the list of books I wish I could read again for the very first time.

The characters, the lore, the way the multiple pov’s weave in around each other. Each and every aspect of Black Sun is a masterclass on how to do epic fantasy.

Synopsis –

A god will return
When the earth and sky converge
Under the black sun

More fantasy themed music for the month of May. I 100% thought this song was sung by two women.

I have had a really good Wyrd and Wonder reading month so far. I have stuck to fantasy, although I did do a quick detour and had a couple of unscheduled stops at some books that weren’t on my tbr. Plus, I’ve also had a couple of false starts with 2 or 3 dnfs. Continue reading “WWW Wednesday”

It’s May so it’s a fantasy only kind of month and I totally dig it. I came into the month with three fantasy books on the go and somehow started two others already and dnf’d one. Continue reading “WWW Wednesday”

Gods and Monsters by Janie Marie

Sometimes you read a book and your like yep, that was fine. I enjoyed it. And then you sit down to write a review and you realise that if you look to closely at the plot, characters and the pacing, all the holes start showing. And if you try to write an in-depth review it will become a shit-show.

That’s where I’m at and I feel conflicted.

I loved the concept, I love fated lovers. I loved that our main character had kids. I loved the plague idea. I LOVED the men in this book and I really enjoyed our main characters growth. Continue reading “Gods and Monsters by Janie Marie”
