Top Middle Grade Reads 2020

This year has been an absolute shit show for my reading habits. My love for big chunky books has shrivelled up and died in the corner and it’s hard to hold my attention. My saving grace has been middle grade books. They have been sweet, wholesome, brutal and everything I needed to keep reading this year. 

An interview with Laurel Gale

For me, this year has been the time of the middle grade reads. The range and depth available blows my mind and one of the books I enjoyed earlier this year was Story Magic by Laurel Gale. It was a tale of hope and it made my heart warm. You can find my review HERE.

To celebrate the release of Story Magic, I’ve been lucky enough to chat with the author, Laurel Gale.

Hi Laurel, thank you for taking the time to join me today. Congratulations on the upcoming release of Story Magic. Can you tell us a little bit about Story Magic and where the idea came from?

Story Magic by Laurel Gale

In a world where females are banned from telling stories and stories are never told for entertainment, we have the Listeners. If they are told a story and they like it they can help you with magic. 12 year old Kaya knows that she isn’t to tell stories or something bad will happen, but after feeling the tingle on her neck telling her a Listener is nearby, she takes a breath and shares a story. The Listener repays her story with a little bit of magic. But when her brother is taken to a nearby city to be interrogated, she knows deep down that this is her fault and that she must do everything she can to save him.
