June wrap up part 2

I’m not sure why this has been such a full on reading month but I have smashed my yearly reading target. The part one of my wrap up can be found HERE. I actually completed my tbr which is astounding as it’s not something I do often. I’ve already talked about all the Tate James I’ve read this month as well, so I won’t repeat those, but if you missed it, you can find those HERE. I even managed to shove a fantasy or two into my schedule. They were rereads and I loved them more the second time around.

I don’t normally put star ratings on my blog, but because I’m not actually talking about any of the books, I figured this would be an easy way to give you an idea on what I thought of them. Continue reading “June wrap up part 2”

WWW Wednesday

Today I have a super simple post to let the world know what I’m reading. Hosted by Taking on a World of Words, you answer 3 questions and hey presto, you are all done.

What are you currently reading?

What did you recently finish reading?

What do you think you’ll read next?

Guess who has a three month trial of kindle unlimited? ME, ME, ME!! I’m having fun with it.

Currently reading –

I’ve been embracing the romance genre this month, but was missing fantasy, so I thought I would combine the two and give A Deal with the Elf King a go after seeing rave reviews and signing up to kindle unlimited. I’m halfway through as I write this and I haven’t decided if I’m going to finish it. I’m rather bored.

Recently Finished –

I completed my reread of Never Die and Pawns Gambit by Rob J. Hayes and they were both better the second time around. I have reviews up for them here and here, if you want to check those out. If you haven’t read anything by Hayes before and are not sure where to start, I would definitely suggest this series. The characters are delightful and surprising. He writes brilliant female characters and they are never included just to move the story along. They are the story. The mythology is intriguing and well written.

Reading Next –

Liar by Tate James is the next book on my tbr. It’s book 2 in the Madison Kate series. It turns out I’m quite the fan of the reverse harem sub genre.

Have you read any of these? What are you reading at the moment?

I’m still doing my very best to stick to fantasy books this month. I’m actually surprised by how well I’m doing. Yay for Wyrd and Wonder and it’s ability to help me focus. Continue reading “WWW Wednesday”

Fantasy May Giveaway

To celebrate my love of fantasy and the awesome books I’ve read so far this year, I’m running a giveaway over on Twitter.

It’s super easy to enter, just head over to my pinned post on Twitter, follow, like, share, tag a friend and tell me which of the four books below you would like to win.

The Giveaway will be running until the 30th of May and I’ll be selecting a winner on the 31st. Open internationally as long as Book Depository ships to you.

These are some of my favourite reads over the last six month. They also happen to have some of the most amazing cover art, so they will look fantastic on your shelves.

Pawn’s Gambit by Rob J. Hayes

Some days I need to be careful where I check my email, because occasionally I get an email that causes me to emit a shrieking “hell yeah” followed by a fist pump in the air, a silly grin and a little dance. That is exactly what occurred the day I opened my email and discovered an arc of Pawn’s Gambit sitting there waiting for me. It was the ultimate early Christmas present.

Pawn’s Gambit is book 2 in the Mortal Techniques series and while it is definitely an advantage to have read book 1, Never Die, they aren’t tied together so they can be read separately. Although I will say you would be doing yourself a massive disservice as there are little nods to book one throughout and its an absolute treat. Continue reading “Pawn’s Gambit by Rob J. Hayes”

Favourites of 2020

Well it’s a week or so later than I originally planned, but finally it’s here. My wrap up of 2020. Life wise all has been well here, where I live we have managed to avoid, for now, Covid affecting our lives too much. The kids had a couple of weeks off school and a lot of business was closed for a while. I was off work for six months, but a lot of other people were affected way more than us. My daughter and I have started volunteering at a wildlife hospital, my son has taken up a new sport and I’m looking forward to trying new things in 2021 (Well maybe saying that I’m looking forward to new things is a bit strong lol). I also fell in love with reading middle grade books and they kept me reading while I was teetering on the verge of a massive slump. Continue reading “Favourites of 2020”

The Lessons Never Learned by Rob J. Hayes

I have been trying to write this review for over a month. Not only have I been in the middle of a blogging lull, but I find it really hard to write reviews for books that are the second in a series. Add on loving it and I fold under the pressure. So on that note I’m going to push through my reviewer block and get the fangirling started. Oh and there will be spoilers for Along The Razor’s Edge, (review), I will do my best to keep them to a minimum.

Wyrd and Wonder – TBR

How did I forget about this? I should hand my fantasy lover card back. A whole month dedicated to fantasy and I’m not prepared. Ok I can do this… I can rave about fantasy for a whole month.

A big thanks to Imyrl, Lisa and Jorie for hosting. You can find all the info HERE.

This month I’m hoping to catch up on some arcs as I got approved for more than expected. I may have picked up a whole heap of fantasy lately and I’ve got more coming, so I’ll show those off in the coming days and fingers crossed I will get a couple of reviews up. I’m way behind.
