I think it’s time I face reality, I’m in a massive blogging slump and I’m trying to pull myself out of a reading slump.
So this tbr is pure speculation, it’s just what I have sitting on my kindle.
One of these books is not like the others…
My romance binge is continuing this month and I’m making sure to cross a few more TikTok hyped books off my list. Yes that means I’m heading off-world for some blue alien sexy time. Not gonna lie, I’m kind of terrified about that one.
Once again, I’m taking full advantage of kindle unlimited, I’m hoping to limit my purchases to 4 books total for the month. I figure one book a week should be enough to scratch my shopaholic urges.
I’m very interested to see how far I make it through my tbr as I actually finished it last month. Have you read any of these?
I’m not sure why this has been such a full on reading month but I have smashed my yearly reading target. The part one of my wrap up can be found HERE. I actually completed my tbr which is astounding as it’s not something I do often. I’ve already talked about all the Tate James I’ve read this month as well, so I won’t repeat those, but if you missed it, you can find those HERE. I even managed to shove a fantasy or two into my schedule. They were rereads and I loved them more the second time around.
I don’t normally put star ratings on my blog, but because I’m not actually talking about any of the books, I figured this would be an easy way to give you an idea on what I thought of them. Continue reading “June wrap up part 2”
At the start of the month I made a post about wanting to read some of the hyped about authors on TikTok. You can find my original post HERE. Now that the month is winding down I wanted to see how I did. If I actually managed to stick to my list of books and let you know if I thought they were worth the hype.
First on my list was Tate James. I started with Hate from her Madison Kate series. I think it’s safe to say that I really enjoyed her book. 7 books later and I’m desperately waiting for the last book in her Hades series to be released. I loved her books so much I wrote an entire post singing her praises, which you can find HERE. If you are after a reverse harem, like your men protective, violent, sweet, heavily tattooed with a little bit of choking than Tate James is the author for you.

Sometimes you see an authors name get thrown around and you wonder, is the hype warranted. Are they really that good at what they do?
As I said a few weeks ago, I’ve was planning on reading pretty much all romance this month. I had a heap of authors I wanted to try and I managed to snag free kindle unlimited, so I’ve had plenty to choose from. Tate James is a name I’ve been hearing about on instagram for months and when I finally joined the TikTok ranks the romance readers seemed to love her. I selected 6 or so authors and was only going to read one book from each author.
Today I have a super simple post to let the world know what I’m reading. Hosted by Taking on a World of Words, you answer 3 questions and hey presto, you are all done.
What are you currently reading?
What did you recently finish reading?
What do you think you’ll read next?
Guess who has a three month trial of kindle unlimited? ME, ME, ME!! I’m having fun with it.
I’ve been embracing the romance genre this month, but was missing fantasy, so I thought I would combine the two and give A Deal with the Elf King a go after seeing rave reviews and signing up to kindle unlimited. I’m halfway through as I write this and I haven’t decided if I’m going to finish it. I’m rather bored.
I completed my reread of Never Die and Pawns Gambit by Rob J. Hayes and they were both better the second time around. I have reviews up for them here and here, if you want to check those out. If you haven’t read anything by Hayes before and are not sure where to start, I would definitely suggest this series. The characters are delightful and surprising. He writes brilliant female characters and they are never included just to move the story along. They are the story. The mythology is intriguing and well written.
Liar by Tate James is the next book on my tbr. It’s book 2 in the Madison Kate series. It turns out I’m quite the fan of the reverse harem sub genre.
Have you read any of these? What are you reading at the moment?
A chance encounter at the hairdresser brought this book to my attention and I’m very glad it happened. So thank you to my hairdresser for fitting me in and introducing me to the author in the basin next to me.
Welcome to Blackwood is Khaiah Thomson’s debut novel and she has smashed it out of the park with an engaging, well written story.
It is set in the lush, secretive town of Blackwood. The descriptions are fantastic and I want to live there. Not even for all the supernatural shenanigans, but for the absolutely beautiful setting. It has the forest, beach and small town vibes. It sounds like heaven. Continue reading “Welcome to Blackwood by Khaiah Thomson”
Book review
I don’t know about you, but I’m a total cover whore. I don’t need to read the blurb, if it’s bright, shiny and pretty, my inner 4 year old comes out and I have to have it. Admit it, we all do it.
That is how I found one of my top 2016 reads; Yellow by Megan Jacobson. It had some of the most authentic Australian teenage dialogue and I read it in one sitting. So when I stumbled across The Build-Up Season, I didn’t read the synopsis, I didn’t check reviews, I didn’t care about that stuff, Yellow was such a strong, engaging read that I will automatically buy her next 10 books. The Brass Queen is a rollicking fun adventure with wonderful over the top, sassy characters.
Synopsis – In 1897, a fiery British aristocrat and an inept US spy search for a stolen invisibility serum that could spark a global war.
Miss Constance Haltwhistle is the last in a line of blue-blooded rogue inventors. Selling exotic firearms under her alias, the ‘Brass Queen,’ has kept her baronial estate’s coffers full. But when US spy, Trusdale, saves her from assassins, she’s pulled into a search for a scientist with an invisibility serum. As royal foes create an invisible army to start a global war, Constance and Trusdale must learn to trust each other. If they don’t, the world they know will literally disappear before their eyes.
This is the prelude novella to the Existence series, book 1 will be released later this month. I thought it was really cool that the author gives us this story first. Often when a prelude is written later into a series it feels like it’s trying to fill the gaps. Remember is a complete story on it’s own. It gives you hints as to what will come but it seems like there are so many ways in which the world is about to go to shit that you just don’t quite know what way the author will choose.
