I enjoyed Trail of lightning and when I saw all the hype around Black Sun I purposely stayed away from reviews to avoid spoiling it for myself. I went in blind so to speak.

BEST DESCISION EVER

What an absolute delight. Reading Black Sun is an absolute experience. It has popped straight to the list of books I wish I could read again for the very first time.

The characters, the lore, the way the multiple pov’s weave in around each other. Each and every aspect of Black Sun is a masterclass on how to do epic fantasy.

I have had a really good Wyrd and Wonder reading month so far. I have stuck to fantasy, although I did do a quick detour and had a couple of unscheduled stops at some books that weren’t on my tbr. Plus, I’ve also had a couple of false starts with 2 or 3 dnfs.

It’s May so it’s a fantasy only kind of month and I totally dig it. I came into the month with three fantasy books on the go and somehow started two others already and dnf’d one.

Did someone say Wyrd and Wonder?

It’s time for my favourite event of the year. WYRD AND WONDER!!!!! The entire month of May raving about all things fantasy. Every type of fantasy. High, low, epic, magical realism, grimdark, urban, paranormal… All of it.

I think the big challenge this year will actually be producing reviews for what I’ve read and what I will be reading. I just counted and I have 15 partially written reviews that I could finish and post during May. All wonderful books, but I haven’t written a review in over a month, so you can see why I would be concerned about my ability to get shit done.

What I’ll be adding to the TBR next…

My tbr is a mammoth thing, it has taken on a life of it’s own and if I hadn’t started reading on my kindle, it would have probably filled my house and suffocated me. I don’t let that stop me though, I add to my book collection way to often. So I thought I would give you a look at the books I’m hoping to add to my collection soon.

Wyrd and Wonder – TBR

How did I forget about this? I should hand my fantasy lover card back. A whole month dedicated to fantasy and I’m not prepared. Ok I can do this… I can rave about fantasy for a whole month.

This month I’m hoping to catch up on some arcs as I got approved for more than expected. I may have picked up a whole heap of fantasy lately and I’ve got more coming, so I’ll show those off in the coming days and fingers crossed I will get a couple of reviews up. I’m way behind.

I just looked it up and the last time I did one of these posts was on March 1st. So to make this look less outrageous I’m splitting it up into two. One for my birthday haul and then another for the rest of the books I’ve accumulated along the way.

I really suck at not buying books. I want to say that in my defence I’ve read a substantial amount that were on my last Stacking the Shelves post, but even if I hadn’t I would have ended up with more books. Plus I love bargains. These are from the last month, so it’s not that bad.

Physical books:
The Witcher series by Andrzej Sapkowski – I watched the first four episodes of the show and thought it was epic. I have yet to finish the show, but I can read the books now. I already had The Last Wish, so over a couple of weeks I grabbed most of the others.

The Unspoken Name by A.K. Larkwood – Sometimes my local Big W stocks fantasy that I can’t wait for and it would be a crime to go leave them there. I’m 100 or so pages in and the writing is beautiful.

Ebooks:
The Wolf of Oren-Yaro by K.S Villoso – The hype got to me with this one. Plus you can’t go past a series titled Chronicles of the Bitch Queen.

The First of Shadows by Deck Matthews – I saw Jason’s review and decided I needed to give it a whirl. It was a quick, enjoyable read. Hopefully I’ll get a review up sometime soon.

NetGalley:
The Iron Crown by M.A. Grant – I really enjoyed book one (REVIEW) and I’m halfway through book two at the moment. I didn’t think my request would be accepted but lucky for me it was.
