July reading wrap up

I had a pretty great reading month, I didn’t 100% stick to my tbr, I guess my mood reader ways can’t be tamed, but for the most part I read some great books. I haven’t picked up a book in the last week. I’m not sure why. Emotionally it has been a big couple of months and I think I’m burnt out.

I watched a Jolt, on Amazon. Kate Beckinsale is such a badass babe. It wasn’t the best movie but I didn’t have to think or feel for 90 minutes so that was nice. I also watched a few episodes of New Girl. I love it but only watch 2-3 episodes every few months, so it’s going to take me forever to get through. (I’m still on season 1). I also started The Good Doctor. It will also become a show I only watch every now and then, so I’ll never get through it. And last night I decided to introduce the 16yr old to Underworld as she hadn’t seen it yet and as expected she bloody loved it and is planning on watching the rest of them as soon as possible. Favourites of 2020

Well it’s a week or so later than I originally planned, but finally it’s here. My wrap up of 2020. Life wise all has been well here, where I live we have managed to avoid, for now, Covid affecting our lives too much. The kids had a couple of weeks off school and a lot of business was closed for a while. I was off work for six months, but a lot of other people were affected way more than us. My daughter and I have started volunteering at a wildlife hospital, my son has taken up a new sport and I’m looking forward to trying new things in 2021 (Well maybe saying that I’m looking forward to new things is a bit strong lol). I also fell in love with reading middle grade books and they kept me reading while I was teetering on the verge of a massive slump. Continue reading “Favourites of 2020”

Top Middle Grade Reads 2020

This year has been an absolute shit show for my reading habits. My love for big chunky books has shrivelled up and died in the corner and it’s hard to hold my attention. My saving grace has been middle grade books. They have been sweet, wholesome, brutal and everything I needed to keep reading this year.  Continue reading “Top Middle Grade Reads 2020”

Sci-fi Month comes to a close

What a month… I’ve travelled through space, jumped through dimensions, visited technological superior worlds, and seen the havoc that humans bring down on each other. I’ve met amazing characters, laughed and cried with them, all with a killer soundtrack in the background. Continue reading “Sci-fi Month comes to a close”

May Wrap-Up

Here we are at the end of the month. I’ve been traversing through the fantasy worlds and ignoring the reviewing part that comes with being a blogger. I got lost a couple of times, as even with a clear map, I get distracted by all things bright and shiny. A big thank you to our fearless leaders Imyrl, Lisa, and Jorie, I am already looking forward to next year. Continue reading “May Wrap-Up”

My 2019 in review

Hey, Hello, Welcome. Its been well over a month since I even attempted to do anything blog related. I have a habit of going hard at something and then completely dying in the arse and it’s very obvious when you look at the way I post. Some months I post several times a week, others I only post once and December, well that was the month of silence. I didn’t even read a book in December. I had a dnf but that is it. I was all kinds of busy in December, it was chaos. The erratic posting probably won’t change in 2020.
My productivity levels are often tied to my mental health, which cycles throughout the year. When I’m hyper focused I can smash through posts, but once my brain starts to fog up, I struggle to push through that and that is when I divert my attention to real life stuff. My mental health has definitely done it’s best to kick my ass this past year, and I’ve had months of bouncing of the walls and weeks where I felt like I was suffocating and I didn’t know how to keep functioning. But I have a fantastic support network, a wonderful psychologist, a family that loves me and a husband who can let me hide when needed, hug me when needed and remind me to put the phone down and pay attention to my kids when needed. This isn’t a woe is me post, I don’t expect or need sympathy, it is exactly what the title suggests, a review of my year. All of my year. Continue reading “My 2019 in review”

Sci-Fi wrap up

What’s next?

Sci-Fi month has come to an end. A big thank you to our two lovely hosts, Lisa and Imyril both had a massive job on their hands and they nailed it.
I said at the start of November that reading more Sci-Fi was one of my goals this year and I think it’s safe to say I’ve done way better than I expected. Throughout November I managed to smash out a series that I’ve had on my shelves for years and another couple from NetGalley. I realised that there is so much more to the Sci-Fi genre than spaceships and other worlds. Continue reading “Sci-Fi wrap up”

January Wrap Up

It’s the end of January which just plain sucks. School goes back on the 4th and my house is going to be so empty without my little dude around. Plus I feel like I’ve hardly seen my daughter at all as she has been away for a massive chunk of the holiday. Literally 4 weeks out of 7 she has been away. Oh well, at least I can go back to reading during the day while ignoring the housework. I’ll take that as a positive. Continue reading “January Wrap Up”

December Wrap Up

The month ebooks went on sale and I overindulged.

It’s not my fault. There were just so many books that were either 99c or $1.99 that I clicked on a few to many. I did pick up a few for free as well which was awesome. I think what I find most exciting is that a chunk of them are self published. I’m not setting any major book related goals for 2019, but if I was, reading more self published books would definitely be one of them. Continue reading “December Wrap Up”

2018 wrap up

A few of my favourite things

pexels-photo.jpgIt’s here, the end of 2018. Politically the year has been a total shit-show, but my goodness, the books have been good. I have read 72 books as I write this, with the hopes of finishing one or two more before the end of the year. Although in all honesty I might leave a page in each book and then finish them New Years Day, that way I can pat myself on the back for being an awesome reader. Continue reading “2018 wrap up”
