Friday Face Off

The Friday Face Off meme was created by Books by Proxy and its an awesome opportunity to feature some cool cover art. All you have to do is choose a book cover that relates to the theme, which can be found over on Lynn’s page, post some covers and select your favourite.

This is my first time jumping onto this meme bandwagon and I thought I had it in the bag, but the curse of Ilona Andrews covers strikes again.

Lion- “Is that a lion with horns and a pitchfork?”

Magic Strikes by Ilona Andrews
Ace – The only one really with an actual lion on the cover
Magic strikes cover 2 by Gollancz
Gollancz – I have no words
Magic Strikes German edition
German edition – It’s very whimsical
Magic Strikes Czech edition
Czech edition – She looks like she is going on a pirate adventure and I want to go too
Magic Strikes french edition
French edition – It’s pretty
Magic strikes other french
French edition number 2 – This probably represents the book the best

Ilona Andrews are notorious for bad covers and it seems that it affects all of their editions. I love the Ace edition, it has a lion, it has her battered and bruised (with perfect hair) and it looks like she is defending Curran as much as he is defending her. This is the book in the series that made me fall completely in love with the characters as well as the world. It made me love them two together, so the Ace has to take the win for nostalgic reasons. A special mention has to go to the Czech edition for looking like the cover of a porn movie and the second French edition is straight up badass.

Which is your favourite? And if you have read the book, which one do you think represents the story the best? Damn it now I want to read them again.

  1. Haha, Magic strikes, but maybe not the covers! They are kind of cheesy but over the years they’ve grown on me 😀
I nearly used the first book from the series – for some reason it’s the only one I’ve read although I’ve always been intrigued about the rest of the books.
    Lynn 😀
